Shifting Landscapes: Mapping Space, Time and Memory marks the sixth edition of the Galeri Khazanah virtual exhibition, its most significant yet. This hybrid presentation unfolds across the digital realm and a physical activation housed within the historic Seri Negara di Carcosa.
Originally built in 1913 as the King’s House, Seri Negara at Carcosa has been a silent witness to the defining moments in Malaysia’s nationhood. It was here that the Federation of Malaya Agreement was signed in 1948 and the Malaysia’s Independence Agreement was signed in 1957.
After a meticulous restoration, the building now showcases a selection of works from the virtual exhibition, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to engage with Malaysian art in a space deeply rooted in the nation’s history.
This hybrid format invites viewers to experience the exhibition in two interconnected ways—online, where the full breadth of 35 modern and contemporary artworks is revealed through a navigational virtual platform, and on-site, where curated highlights resonate within a historically charged space.
The exhibition maps Malaysia’s journey through three interwoven arcs:
Space: responding to shifting topographies and identities,
Time: envisioning the future through past and present realities,
Memory: honouring heritage, nationhood, and collective experience.
Organised across five themed virtual reality spaces—Glass Room, Pavilion, Peranakan Room, Traditional House, and Lobby—each virtual gallery offers a distinct lens on Malaysia’s evolving cultural consciousness.
At Seri Negara at Carcosa, this narrative is brought into tangible form. Here, the past and present intersect, offering a contemplative journey through the visual language of art.
Together, the digital and physical experiences bridge generations, spaces, and dreams—reminding us that art is not only a mirror of society but a means to reimagine it.
