Virtual Exhibition 5:
Threads & Tapestry: Weaving a Collective Story of Malaysia

We hope that Galeri Khazanah will be an avenue for the enduring appreciation of Malaysia’s artistic talents and to cultivate vibrant communities for Malaysians.

Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah) is pleased to present our virtual art gallery, named Galeri Khazanah. We are happy to share with all Malaysians, and visitors from around the world, the art pieces produced by Malaysian artists, stitching beautiful stories and narratives together. Our art pieces were acquired gradually since our inception in 1994, and the collection serves as a fragment of the nation’s institutional memory. continue…

Alongside other corporate custodians of the nation’s cultural assets for future generations, Galeri Khazanah aims to preserve and conserve these historical gems and to offer the global audience a glimpse of our cultural heritage through the perspective of Malaysian artists.

Through this digital platform, Galeri Khazanah strives to provide knowledge accessibility amid global demographic shifts and to cultivate heritage appreciation via the digitalisation of our artworks. This includes the process of taking inventory of physical artworks, scanning, and storing their data prior to showcasing them in thematic exhibitions.

We hope that Galeri Khazanah will be an avenue for the enduring appreciation of Malaysia’s artistic talents and to cultivate vibrant communities for Malaysians.

At Khazanah, the work that we do touches the lives of a wide range of people. Over the years, we have woven threads into Malaysia’s rich social fabric that in turn contribute towards the development of this nation of ours.

As part of our Advancing Malaysia strategy, we aim to build capacity and spur vibrant communities for the benefit of Malaysians, and we are proud to be a passionate advocate for the preservation, appreciation, and recognition of local arts, heritage, and culture.

This is reflected in our efforts in developing talents by providing opportunities for emerging Malaysian artists via the Khazanah Arts Residency, as well as various arts, heritage, and public spaces initiatives through our foundation, Yayasan Hasanah.

Together, we support the preservation of our artistic and cultural heritage in Advancing Malaysia that we can be proud of in the eyes of the world.

Over the years, Khazanah has collected meaningful cultural pieces such as drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, crafts, and historical objects serving as fragments of the nation’s collective memory – to preserve and conserve all these irreplaceable artefacts for future generations.

In July 2022, Galeri Khazanah launched its inaugural virtual exhibition, Time Together: Exploring Art Through Khazanah Nasional Berhad’s Collection. This marked a new chapter of discovery, inviting audiences to engage with the narratives of Malaysian art through artist engagement sessions and educational workshops for children.

As this initiative continues, and as we celebrate Khazanah’s 30 years of Advancing Malaysia in 2024, Galeri Khazanah showcased a selection of artworks in a mini physical exhibition titled Journeying Through Malaysian Art, Imagination, and Legacy at Think City, Bangunan UAB in Penang between July and August 2024. This exhibition reaffirmed our unwavering dedication to fostering creativity, innovation, and cultural enrichment within our community, instilling a sense of inspiration and hope for the future.

To date, Galeri Khazanah has produced five editions of our virtual exhibitions, showcasing over 230 works by 78 Malaysian artists, all accessible to a global audience.

In our fifth installation, we are pleased to share a collection of 33 artworks curated under the theme of Threads & Tapestry: Weaving a Collective Story of Malaysia. Our mission is to share Malaysia’s cultural heritage through the lenses of local artists, offering a gateway to the nation’s diverse stories and perspectives as art is truly the soul of a nation. By harnessing our unique role as a bridge between Malaysia and the world, we aspire to leave a lasting impact, fostering a sense of global community and a deeper understanding of our culture.

This aligns with our long-term strategy of Advancing Malaysia: establishing a more profound sense of national pride through history, arts, culture, and heritage preservation. We will continue to work towards moving this nation forward and contribute value for economic progress and social well-being.

We welcome you to take a moment to explore Khazanah’s art collection, produced by these high-calibre artists, displayed in a carefully designed virtual space especially for you. I hope you will enjoy the virtual exhibitions as much as we have enjoyed curating them.
