Virtual Exhibition 4:
Harmony and Contrast: Honouring the Past, Celebrating the Present, Shaping a Vibrant Future

We hope that Galeri Khazanah will be an avenue for the enduring appreciation of Malaysia’s artistic talents and to cultivate vibrant communities for Malaysians.

Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah) is pleased to present our virtual art gallery, named Galeri Khazanah. We are happy to share with all Malaysians, and visitors from around the world, the art pieces produced by Malaysian artists, stitching beautiful stories and narratives together. Our art pieces were acquired gradually since our inception in 1994, and the collection serves as a fragment of the nation’s institutional memory. continue…

Alongside other corporate custodians of the nation’s cultural assets for future generations, Galeri Khazanah aims to preserve and conserve these historical gems and to offer the global audience a glimpse of our cultural heritage through the perspective of Malaysian artists.

Through this digital platform, Galeri Khazanah strives to provide knowledge accessibility amid global demographic shifts and to cultivate heritage appreciation via the digitalisation of our artworks. This includes the process of taking inventory of physical artworks, scanning, and storing their data prior to showcasing them in thematic exhibitions.

We hope that Galeri Khazanah will be an avenue for the enduring appreciation of Malaysia’s artistic talents and to cultivate vibrant communities for Malaysians.

At Khazanah, the work that we do touches the lives of a wide range of people. Over the years, we have woven threads into Malaysia’s rich social fabric that in turn contribute towards the development of this nation of ours.

As part of our Advancing Malaysia strategy, we aim to build capacity and spur vibrant communities for the benefit of Malaysians, and we are proud to be a passionate advocate for the preservation, appreciation, and recognition of local arts, heritage, and culture.

This is reflected in our efforts in developing talents by providing opportunities for emerging Malaysian artists via the Khazanah Arts Residency, as well as various arts, heritage, and public spaces initiatives through our foundation, Yayasan Hasanah.

Together, we support the preservation of our artistic and cultural heritage in Advancing Malaysia that we can be proud of in the eyes of the world.

Over the years, Khazanah has collected meaningful cultural pieces such as drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, crafts, and historical objects serving as fragments of the nation’s collective memory – to preserve and conserve all these irreplaceable artefacts for future generations.

Galeri Khazanah’s virtual art gallery was launched in July 2022 with our inaugural virtual art exhibition titled Time Together: Exploring Art Through Khazanah Nasional Berhad’s Collection. It was a time of exploration for everyone to unravel the beautiful narratives of Malaysian art within Khazanah’s collection, whether through a series of talks by artists or educational art workshops designed for young children.

Between July 2022 and September 2024, Galeri Khazanah produced four editions of virtual exhibitions – highlighting over 200 artworks by 74 Malaysian artists.

This year, Khazanah celebrates 30 years of Advancing Malaysia. We are pleased to share a collection of 46 artworks from our latest exhibition, Harmony and Contrast: Honouring the Past, Celebrating the Present, Shaping a Vibrant Future (April 2024 to September 2024).

These 46 artworks provide a visual narrative of how Malaysia has progressed since 1994, the same year Khazanah began operations. We have carefully selected works from Zakaria Ali, Soraya Yusof Talismail, Hari Ho, Abdul Multhalib Musa, SC Shekar and many more to reflect the nation’s progress through various phases of development and, most importantly, to provide different views on how Malaysians see themselves or others throughout this journey. To ensure this collection is accessible globally, we continue to showcase it on our virtual platform, Galeri Khazanah.

Galeri Khazanah aims to offer local and global audiences a glimpse of our cultural heritage through the perspective of local and international artists. By leveraging our unique position to represent Malaysia in global markets, we hope that the virtual art gallery will be impactful in sharing our cultural heritage and the beautiful stories of our diverse nation with the world.

This aligns with our long-term strategy of Advancing Malaysia: establishing a more profound sense of national pride through history, arts, culture, and heritage preservation. We will continue to work towards moving this nation forward and contribute value for economic progress and social well-being.

We welcome you to take a moment to explore Khazanah’s art collection produced by these high-calibre artists, displayed in a carefully designed virtual space, especially for you. I hope you will enjoy the curated virtual exhibitions as much as we have enjoyed curating them for you.
