Mad Anuar Ismail

(b. Terengganu, 1952)

Mad Anuar Ismail was born in 1952 in Dungun, Terengganu. He was a member of the Anak Alam collective in the Seventies. His large-scale sculptures and installations made of wood and iron explore new perspectives in unique visual languages while elevating traditional aesthetic philosophies. He studied at the Universiti Teknologi MARA in Shah Alam and received a bachelor’s degree in fine art in 1977. He was also a former set and graphic designer with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture in the 1980s. His portfolio also includes many prominent public projects, including redesigning the Monumen Pahlawan Negeri Perak and designing the door of the Pekan Mosque in Pahang. He has participated in various exhibitions at home and abroad. In 2017, his debut exhibition titled “Getaran”, organised by Fergana Art, was held at White Box, Publika, in Kuala Lumpur.
