Born in Kedah in 1971, Sabri Idrus attended MARA Institute of Technology in Selangor between 1995 and 1997. In 2017, he obtained a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Practice from Transart Institute, University of Plymouth, United Kingdom. He currently lives and works in Simpang Ampat, Kedah. Sabri Idrus is a highly experimental artist whose art-making practice focuses on combining painting, graphic design, and industrial materials in his efforts to reinvent a new form of representation in art. In 2020, he won the UOB Painting of the Year Award (Malaysia) for his artwork titled Silent Fortress – a contemplative painting with its tactile quality reflects of the theme of “Solidarity” through his interpretation of bridging the gap between the real world and the ideal world he envisions. He has held several solo exhibitions since 1999 with his latest titled Antara at Taksu Gallery in Singapore in 2012. His paintings are in the private and public collection of local and international individuals and corporations.
