Ahmad Zakii Anwar is a graduate of the School of Art and Design, MARA Institute of Technology in graphic design in 1977. Lauded for his stimulating portraits, figurative, still-life of fruits and vegetables in suggestive compositions and domestic kitchenware as well as beastly wild animals and the exotic Balinese culture and spiritual Buddhist iconography in various medium, his preoccupation has also expanded to watercolour illustrations. His artistic practice, which began in the 1990s after leaving the advertising industry to become a full-time artist. He held his first solo exhibition in 1997 at now-defunct Valentine Willie Fine Art in Kuala Lumpur.
