Raja Azhar

Born in 1952 in Perak, Malaysia, Raja Azhar Idris earned his Fine Arts degree from the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia. In 1981, he received the Melbourne Lord Mayor’s Prize and was named Artist of the Year by the Victoria Artist Society. He also founded Art Case Galleries, where he continues to practice his art.

From acrylic, oil, watercolours to sculptures in metal and glass – Raja Azhar is renowned for his paintings of unpredictable tropical rainy weather. It was in moments like these, when everything appeared blurred and fluid through the glass window became metaphors for the reality of life today: fleeting, unstable, and in constant flux.
