Dato’ Haron Mokhtar

(b. Selangor, 1963)

Born in Simpang Lima, Sungai Besar, Selangor in 1963, Dato’ Haron Mokhtar is an artist and educator whose artworks is based on the cultural heritage of the Malaysian community, particularly the culture of the indigenous people and iconic local architecture. He attended the MARA Institute of Technology between 1983 and 1987 where he obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts followed by a Diploma in Art Education from 1987 to 1988. He has taught in public schools in Sarikei and Sibu, Sarawak between 1989 and 1994. From 1994 to 1998, he served as Senior Assistant Student Affairs at SMK Telok Gadong, Klang and later he was appointed Head of Humanities at SMK Ungku Aziz, Sabak Bernam in Selangor. In 2018, he presented his eighth solo exhibition titled “Haron Mokhtar: Kapsul Masa 1988-2018” (Siri Perakam Waktu) at Galeri Shah Alam featuring 86 paintings. The exhibition was officiated by the Sultan of Selangor Duli Yang Maha Mulia (DYMM) Sultan Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
